Introduction
We want to help you share your story with the world. The SIFE Photo & Video Contest is designed as an opportunity for teams to showcase and highlight how their projects are impacting those in need. All teams
are encouraged to submit their best project photos and custom-made videos for the potential to be
recognized and featured in future SIFE marketing materials, as well as the chance to win cash prizes.
General Information
Eligibility
All SIFE teams are eligible to participate.
How to Enter
Submit all entries online at www.sife.org/mediacontest. Although there is only one chance to win, teams can enter as many photos or videos depicting as many projects as they want.
Contest Dates
Entries will be accepted online February 7th, 2011 through July 1st, 2011. Winners will be announced July 15th.
Judging
Entries will be judged by members of the SIFE Worldwide marketing team. Winners will be selected based on the content, composition, quality and overall impact of each photo and video. Entries not meeting the stated requirements will not be considered.
Special Notes
This contest is not connected to the overall SIFE competition or any special competition. By participating in this contest, teams grant SIFE Worldwide all rights and permissions to use and reproduce their project summaries, photos and videos.
Photo Contest
Overview
We are looking for compelling, emotionally engaging, color photographs of SIFE projects in action. You can choose to enter existing photos or take new photos for the contest, but all photos should capture the people involved in your projects and, where possible, your team members actually interacting with project participants (avoid team meetings or posed SIFE team photos). Keep in mind composition – close-up, well-framed photos are ideal. Also, don’t forget the technical details. Photos that are out of focus, poorly lit or too small cannot be reproduced. Lastly, as you are preparing your accompanying project summaries, be sure to completely, but concisely outline the need, process and outcome of the project featured in your photographs.
Contest Rules
- Teams may submit as many entries as they would like.
- Each submission should represent only one project, but there is no limit as to how many photos can be included with each submission.
- Photos must be high resolution and at least 5 megapixels or more in size.
- Photos must be in color.
- Photos should be free of filters and special effects. (Color correction is allowed.)
- Photo entries must include a maximum 150 word project summary (in English).
Awards & Recognitions
- One overall winner will receive $1,000 USD.
- In addition to the overall winner, up to five finalists will be chosen and each awarded $500 USD.
- The finalists' will be announced and have their entries featured on the SIFE worldwide website and social networking sites.
- All participants have the potential for their photographs to be included in SIFE marketing materials.
Video Contest
Overview
We are looking for creative, inspirational documentary-style videos that tell the story of a single SIFE project (no team building or highlight videos set to music). Videos should be informative and concisely summarize the project. To achieve this, consider creating a story line that focuses on the need, how the project worked and, most important, why what you did mattered. Whether using text on screen, a narrator or a series of interviews, be sure to illustrate what was unique about your project and demonstrate the impact. When taping, focus on people being helped and look for up-close personal shots. Avoid excessive zooming in and out and panning back and forth. Finally, use editing to create a seamless flow and avoid the use of too many special effects.
Contest Rules
- Teams can submit as many videos as they would like.
- Each video must represent only one project.
- Videos must be in a 486 x 440 format or higher.
- Photos must be in color.
- Videos must be in English (quotes and comments from project participants can be subtitled in English).
Awards & Recognitions
- First place will receive $1,000 USD.
- Second place will receive $750 USD.
- Third place will receive $500 USD.
- The winner will be announced and have their entries featured on the SIFE worldwide website and social networking sites.
- All participants have the potential for their photographs to be included in SIFE marketing materials.
