Topic Competitions - South Africa
Tertiary SIFE South African teams are encouraged to educate disadvantaged or needy groups/individuals on financial literacy and empower them to develop the personal financial management skills necessary to achieve financial independence. By August, HSBC South Africa will be presented with project summary reports of all these outreach projects/activities implemented across the country during the SIFE SA year (August 2007-July 2008) on financial literacy.
In addition, this topic competition will be judged by HSBC South Africa executives, or at the Sponsor's request, by an independent panel of business leaders assembled by SIFE South Africa on competition day in early July 2008. SIFE SA Teams will be evaluated on the effectiveness of their individual topic projects/activities and will be considered by HSBC South Africa for the HSBC Financial Literacy Individual Topic SIFE Award, given to the SIFE Team that implemented the best project(s) during this program year on this sponsored topic.
All participants in this individual topic competition must compete at the 2008 SIFE South Africa National Competition in order to receive their awards. Educational outreach projects completed for this topic competition will also fulfill SIFE Criteria #4 of the judging criteria in the overall SIFE South Africa competition.
As a result, HSBC South Africa will receive full credit for all projects/activities that SIFE South African Teams implement under the Financial Literacy focus area. SIFE Teams will receive information in advance about this sponsored topic as well as an electronic copy of the HSBC logo, and will be encouraged to highlight the sponsor throughout the year when referring to this topic, including on competition day and in the field.
Each SIFE Team will be given 10 t-shirts displaying the SIFE SA and HSBC logos with bold text reference to the HSBC Financial Literacy Individual Topic Sponsorship, and they will be encouraged to wear these t-shirts while implementing the project(s).
Please note that this award is funded by HSBC South Africa, not the global program coordinated through SIFE World Headquarters, Inc.
Awards:
First Place - ZAR1,500 + plaque (1 ‘first place award’ for each opening league competition)
Second Place - ZAR1,000 + plaque (1 ‘second place award’ for each opening league)
Third Place - honorary mention (1 ‘third place mention’ for each opening league)
