GRANT PROGRAM - SIFE ANNOUNCES 2009 HSBC FINANCIAL LITERACY GRANT
Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) is pleased to announce the fifth year of the HSBC Financial Literacy Grant Programme by the HSBC Global Education Trust and HSBC. More than 360 applications representing 22 countries were submitted from around the world offering a wide range of ideas and concepts to teach financial literacy.
In conjunction with SIFE, HSBC believes that financial education is an essential and empowering skill for a successful future. The grant program provides students the opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills while educating others about financial literacy skills.
Again in 2009, the grants will focus on financial literacy education. Proposed projects will take place in local communities, over the Internet, or in projects crossing borders. Projects will target various audiences such as elementary and secondary school students, young adults, university students, single mothers, or entrepreneurs.
SIFE is pleased to announce the 2009 HSBC Financial Literacy Grant recipients. See 2009 Awards. More than 280 grants were allocated based on the key criteria of:

- Results: A commitment to deliver meaningful and measurable results that will have a positive impact on financial literacy education in both the short-term and long-term
- Challenging and innovative: Challenging and innovative project that has the potential to reach a large audience
- Sustainability: A well thought-through action plan to ensure the sustainability of the project's achievements including effective budgeting, the use of teamwork and/or partnerships and knowledge sharing; and,
- SIFE Criteria 4: The project is likely to fulfill the fourth SIFE competition judging criteria for 2008-2009 (i.e. "How effectively did the SIFE team measure and demonstrate that it created economic opportunity by helping others develop the financial management skills necessary to achieve financial independence?").
