2007 HSBC Financial Literacy Forum

SIFE was pleased to host the second international HSBC Financial Literacy Forum on 9 October 2007 in New York City, New York, United States. The special event was invitation-only for approximately 100 selected college and university students from 27 countries, which represent more than 425 universities from the 2007 HSBC Financial Literacy Programme. The Forum included a special presentation by Dame Mary Richardson, Chief Executive of the HSBC Global Education Trust.

Students attending were familiar with their SIFE team's financial literacy project as they spent time in round tables discussing their projects, economic issues and other aspects of financial literacy.

Olivia Mellan, President
Olivia Mellan & Associates, Inc.

Olivia Mellan is a speaker, psychotherapist, money coach and business consultant in private practice in Washington, DC. Since 1982, she has been a groundbreaker in the field of money psychology and money conflict resolution. She began her therapy career in 1974 specializing in women's issues, then in couples therapy, and finally in business therapy.

She is the author of four critically acclaimed books, Money Harmony: Resolving Money Conflicts in Your Life and Relationships, Overcoming Overspending: A Winning Plan for Spenders and their Partners, Money Shy to Money Sure: A Woman's Road Map to Financial Well-Being, and The Advisor's Guide to Money Psychology (the latter three co-written with Sherry Christie.) She has also produced two audiocassettes, one for financial professionals and one for the general public. Her video, "In the Prime: Couples and Money with Olivia Mellan, " was produced by WETA-TV. Money Harmony was just named by Washington Post columnist Michelle Singletary as one of her top 10 favorite money books.

Her column, "The Psychology of Advice," for financial professionals appears monthly in Investment Advisor magazine. She was named one of IA's top 25 in 2006 (those most influential on the planning profession.)

She has frequently appeared on Oprah, The TODAY Show, and ABC-s 20-20, and is interviewed often on nationwide radio, (Marketplace, All Things Considered, Wisconsin Public Radio), TV and in the print media. She hosts a weekly call-in radio show, Money Harmony with Olivia Mellan on WWDB-AM 860, Delaware Valley's only money talk radio.

Recently, she has been training, supervising and coaching therapists, counselors and money professionals in money psychology tools and techniques to enhance their relationships with clients through her teleclasses.
