Global
Leadership Forum
Toronto, Canada
Wednesday, October 5, 2005
Caledon Room, Intercontinental Hotel
2 – 4 pm
A
representative group of the BII interns participated in
the SIFE World Cup 2005 and had the opportunity to exchange
and share ideas and cultures with the attendees. They
also led the BII Global Leadership Forum, which was organized
on October 5th as an official event of the SIFE World
Cup. Dozens of students and faculty from around the world,
including the USA and Canada, were in attendance. They
had the opportunity to learn about the successes and challenges
of the BII program over the last year.
The
Forum opened with presentations by three of the groups
who participated in this fifty-two-person U.S. State Department-funded
SIFE exchange program: the US interns who visited Malaysia
and the Malaysian and Indian interns who traveled to the
US (3 months stay for each group). These interns shared
their experiences, lessons learned, and personal / professional
growth experienced. Following these presentations, a discussion
session focused on The Important Role of International
Travel Exchange in Global Leadership and Professional
Development, was facilitated between the interns and later
to include the audience.

The SIFE World Cup took place from 5-7 October at the
Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto Canada. The
event brought together more than 1500 people from over
50 countries including 280 global business leaders. The
USA was represented by more than 100 students and 100
business leaders. The opening round of competition was
held on 6 October, narrowing the field from 45 national
champion teams to 16 teams entering the semi-final round.
From the semi-final round, four teams emerged as final
round competitors: ESSEC Business School (France), Kaduna
Polytechnic (Nigeria), Drury University (United States)
and University of Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe). The final round
of competition was a true showcase of the worldwide impact
that SIFE students are making. The four teams made their
presentations in front of a crowd of over 1,000 people
and 40 judges comprised of CEOs and high level executives
of leading companies from all over the world. Ultimately,
the University of Zimbabwe was named the 2005 SIFE World
Cup Champion.
