In January 2005, 5 SIFE
USA students traveled to India for 3 months and another
5 went to Malaysia for the same period. In May, 21 SIFE
Malaysia students traveled to the USA for 3 months as
one group and in August another 21 SIFE India students
were split up in 10 different US cities for 3 months.
These 52 SIFE students were competitively selected from
24 different institutions and received grants to cover
most of their expenses.
This program would not
have been successful were it not for some key individuals
and institutions prime among which are the SIFE Teams
that hosted interns for extended periods. These include
UiTM in Malaysia and the following USA Teams: Drury University,
Greenfield Community College, College of the Southwest,
Owens Community College, Georgia Southwestern State, Roberts
Wesleyan College, Centenary College, Indiana University
East, Missouri State University and Oakland University.
We thank these teams for accepting the challenge and being
such gracious hosts to the visiting SIFE students.
This program successfully
exposed the interns to the local culture and business
environment of their host cities. They closely collaborated
with local SIFE students and community citizens, experienced
the business and professional work environment of their
host countries, learnt about local economics and business
development issues, traveled extensively, gained greater
insights about different cultures, religions and peoples,
and grew personally and professionally. These participating
SIFE students shattered stereotypes, dispelled myths,
developed strong bonds and lasting friendships. They continue
to share their international experiences with their fellow
citizens and serve as SIFE ambassadors of global peace
and prosperity.
