Training Seminar Overview:

The SIFE Capital Markets Training Seminars, sponsored by the Goldman Sachs Foundation educated 112 SIFE team members and incorporated the teaching expertise of two Goldman Sachs representatives, 15 faculty and SIFE staff from the three countries. The purpose of the training seminars was to educate and inspire SIFE team members to take their new capital markets knowledge and deliver SIFE projects to at least 3,000 high school youth between January 2007 and July 2007.

Training seminars were held in China, Germany, and the USA. Each event started with a networking reception in the evening, giving participants a chance to meet and providing the opportunity to set expectations for the next day's seminar.

Each day-long training seminar began with at least one capital markets expert who presented to the participants for the first two hours of the day. This was followed by an IPO case study, which provided students the chance to apply their newfound knowledge. After lunch, participants focused on idea generation and applying the knowledge to developing a community outreach project. SIFE students were also debriefed on the project competition criteria.

The balance of lecture, case study and small group work resulted in an effective and meaningful training seminar for the SIFE student and faculty participants. For the majority of attendees, the content, while not standardized for all three events, was appropriately challenging and provided them the information needed to develop a follow up outreach project.

All SIFE student attendees have agreed to create, implement, and submit their capital markets project to the SIFE Capital Markets Competition by 2 July 2007. All SIFE teams are eligible to participate in this competition, even those teams that were not represented at the training seminars.
