SIFE Country Coordinator Named as a 2008 Young Global Leader

Springfield, Missouri, USA - James Shikwati, Country Coordinator for SIFE Kenya, was recently honored by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader. He joins 245 other leading professionals and scholars from around the world who are recognized for their accomplishments in business, commitment to society and potential to shape the future of the world. The Young Global Leaders for 2008 represent industry leaders in business, government, media, academia, and society at large from 65 countries.
“My selection as a 2008 Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum is a true illustration of the SIFE spirit that encourages the youth to be leaders of today, “ Shikwati commented. “I have drawn lots of inspiration from young people from SIFE teams in Kenya and Africa in general. I see hope for our continent through hundreds of university students who continuously take their time to learn the art of business and entrepreneurship through SIFE.”
This year’s Young Global Leaders were selected from a pool of almost 5,000 candidates. The 2008 honorees will join the Forum of Young Global Leaders, a multi-stakeholder community who jointly address worldwide challenges and collectively work towards a better future. Each member serves on a task force to develop solutions to international challenges like healthcare, education, poverty, security, and the environment.
In addition to working as Country Coordinator for SIFE Kenya, James Shikwati is also the founder and President of the Inter Region Economic Network, an independent think tank focusing on development economics, and the founder and CEO of The African Executive, an online business magazine. Last year, he was named among the top 100 most influential Kenyans by the East African Standard.
